Should I bring money? Do I need to tip the staff at the resort? How does the money work in Jamaica? Do I need to convert US Dollars to Jamaican Dollars?

Tipping

You will will not need to bring much cash on this trip.  The resort has a no-tipping policy, and most staff will refuse to accept tips.

Non-resort service provides such as bus/taxi drivers and the the staff and tour guides assisting with excursions for the waterfall hike and catamaran will expect tips and they rely on them!

Room Charges and Cash:

Most activities at the resort are included, as well as all of your food and drink. Most items that are not included can be charged to your room - such as spa services, gift shop, SCUBA classes, wine bar, etc. (SCUBA is included free if you are certified).

Note that Hedo Weedo (the Cannabis dispensary) only accepts cash, but there is an ATM machine there. More on Hedo Weedo here.

Money Exchanges

Jamaica has its own currency, the Jamaican dollar, but almost everyone takes (or even prefers) US cash, so you don't really need to exchange it if you bring US cash. The exchange rates are usually around 1 United States Dollar = 150 Jamaican Dollars (but this changes regularly).

Note: In our experience, while you don't have to exchange money for this trip, if you choose to do so, it is usually best to exchange money at the airport. We advise that you do not exchange money with a person on the street as short changing has been known to occur.
